What is AWS ?

AWS

AWS (Amazon Web Services) is the world’s most comprehensive and widely adopted cloud platform. It is a subsidiary of Amazon that rents out massive digital infrastructure—like computing power, database storage, and content delivery—to individuals, companies, and governments.

Instead of a company buying physical servers and building a private server room, they log into the AWS online console and provision exactly what they need in a matter of seconds.

The Global Footprint

AWS manages massive, highly secure data centers located all over the planet. When you use AWS, you can choose exactly where in the world your application's data should physically sit.

AWS organizes this massive network using two key terms:

  • Regions: Geographic locations around the world (for example, US East (N. Virginia), Asia Pacific (Mumbai), or Europe (Frankfurt)).

  • Availability Zones (AZs): Isolated, physical data centers within a specific Region. Every region has multiple AZs. If one data center suffers a power outage or natural disaster, your application can instantly failover to another AZ in the same region without going offline.
